November WIPocalypse Update

Image
It’s so hard to believe the year is almost over! It seems like it only just got started. Oh well, guess they were right when they said the years go by faster as you get older, lol! Anyway, here is my update for the month: Coming Home for the Holidays I have begun the detail stitching although I have a teeny bit of regular stitching left. I need to contact Dimensions to see if they can send me replacement.   Cream for Kitty I am close to halfway done on this piece. I am planning to spend more time on it in December. For now, I am working on some Christmas ornies (gifts) and my giveaway surprise!   Vibrant Vases ~ Vase #2 Well, I am really not happy working with the metallics for this vase so I think I may switch it up a bit and use 1 cotton and 1 metallic strand. We’ll see how that works out.     Christmas Ornaments These are some cute little designs that came as an insert in a 2009 issue of Cross Stitch Crazy (import from UK) around the holidays. There are a bunch of m

Holi-versary Giveaway!

On October 1, 2008 I decided to jump on the blog bandwagon! I really didn’t think it would last this long. Nor did I think I would make friends through this avenue. But it has and I did! I have been busy trying to settle into my new life as an independent woman and missed my blogoversary this year. For those of you who don’t know, my father passed away in September after a battle with cancer. Thus gaining my “independence”. Anyhoo… The holidays are here and I thought I would have a little giveaway to celebrate the season and my 4 years as a blogger! No hoops to jump through here! Just leave a comment on this post. Here are some of the goodies I plan to include: a holiday stitched piece by me a holiday related scissors fob something to keep you warm during the cold winter months and something else to be decided So there you have it! This giveaway is open to all of my followers, old and new. Your last day to enter will be Sunday, December 9th at 5pm EST . I am putting a time on

Thanksgiving and Gratitude

Image
As I sit here and watch an old favorite, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving , I am reminded of a simpler time in my life. A time when I had no worries in life. A time when the only thing I had to concern myself with was going to school, getting decent grades, and hoping to make my parents proud. While these times seem simpler now, they were difficult in the moment (no ma, I’m not gonna get on a tangent, lol). Today was the first Thanksgiving without my dad. While I miss him dearly, I am grateful for those we did have. I spent the day at his brother’s home visiting with family. It was actually very peaceful and quite nice. Usually it is busy and loud as they get lots of folk dropping by. Not today! Unlike the toast and popcorn of Charlie Brown , we had ham, turkey, candied yams, potato salad, chicken dressing (or stuffing), giblet gravy, rutabagas, and cabbage. Oh, there were pies and sweet potato pudding too. No, I didn’t eat everything, just those items that I like. And when my cousin ask

Giveaway coming soon…

I promised news on an upcoming giveaway and I am still tossing some ideas around as I work my way through my stash. I will have more posted on this after Thanksgiving! For now, I will say that it will encompass both my recent Blogoversary and the holidays.

So Thankful!

First and foremost, WELCOME to my newest readers! I look forward to reading any comments you leave and reading your blogs too. It’s been a rule of mine that if you Follow my blog, I will follow yours. That said, I have been awarded a special gift from one of my followers: the Liebster Award! I haven’t received many awards for this blog over the 4+ years, but when I do receive one, they are very special to me. So a big THANK YOU to Mii for this award! Now, I am to choose 5 blogs that I enjoy reading and say something that I like about their blog. Also, they are to have less than 200 followers. Sounds pretty easy, right!?! So here goes: Penny over at Mind Wanderings Penny stitches the cutest pieces. Lana over at A Joyful Stitcher and Reader I will only count her once, but she has a couple of blogs that are fun to read. Her stitching is beautiful on the one blog and she challenges herself in reading a ton of books each year. Well worth the visit! Lija over at Stitching in Cro

Life Goes On…

Well, it’s been a little over 2 months since daddy passed away. I still miss him and probably will for some time to come. But life does go on as I am finding. I started my new job last week and am finding it fulfilling. I am working with veteran’s; a part of society that holds a special place in my heart for many reasons, not the least of which is my being a veteran. Yes, it’s better pay than I was making working in Corrections. This affords me being able to stay in Florida for a bit longer. Now, to find a personal life, lol! That being said, the holidays are approaching and I may post a bit more frequently as I navigate through my first Thanksgiving and Christmas without daddy. And I think about my daughter on what should have been her 16th birthday at the end of the year. I have strength through God to get me through.

Happy Veteran’s Day

Well, this month is off to a good start. I started my new job on the 5th and think it’s gonna work out well. The only down side so far is that just before I left the prison, I caught whatever has been going around. I am still recovering, but feeling more like myself again. I didn’t get much stitching done over the past week or so. I didn’t even work on my CH4TH SAL with Lana over at A Joyful Stitcher . I hope she was able to get some work in on hers. I think I will spend some time on mine this weekend! Not much else to share at the moment. Stay tuned for a small Holiday giveaway announcement later this month.
