July 4, 1776 - the day America was Born

Today, America is celebrating 244 years as a nation. It is the day historians recognize the signing of the Declaration of Independence by our Founding Fathers. It is the day Americans celebrate the many freedoms we have by having cookouts, going to the beach, boating, baseball games, and lighting off or watching fireworks light the skies at nightfall.

This year is a little different due to the pandemic: COVID 19. Yes, this pandemic has closed a lot of activities for the general public across the nation. But it hasn't taken away our freedom to assemble with loved ones and enjoy this special day. Why am I writing this? Well, first and foremost as a historian one of my duties is to document my life for future generations to read. What is happening in the world around me, my perspective on the happenings of the day, and etc. Am I successful in doing this task? Not really.

I have gotten away from blogging for so long now that it's been almost a chore to pick it back up. I find myself distracted or just not wanting to do a post. I think "maybe a short, quick post will be good enough." Then I go back to playing a game on my phone or watching television. Procrastination is a huge issue in my life in recent years. And it sucks!

Anyway, today, I am grateful to be an American. I am grateful to have served my country in the Navy during the Gulf War era (1992-1996). I am grateful to have an education and looking forward to moving into the next and final chapter of that education (as far as degree attainment is concerned).
